The other day, a friend and I took a Cirrus SR-20 for a night crosscountry flight. We departed Centennial Airport (KAPA) at around 11pm local, I flew an ILS approach into Fort Collins airport (KFNL), and then he flew an ILS approach into Denver International Airport (KDEN). These airports were both very well lit, and visibility was just fine. However, we began our flight with an placarded, INOP landing/taxi light, which isn't required except for commercial flights. However, while landing via visual approach back at Centennial (which is a darker/less well-lit airport than the other two), I could see what a difference not having a landing light makes. Check out our video of our final landing into Centennial below, just to see how dark landing at night can be.
