Obituary
Dan Steitz was born in Garden City, Kansas to Jeanette (Orth) and Reinhold Steitz. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church. He went to Garden City High School and graduated in 1978. After high school he joined the Air Force where he was a military police officer and was deployed to Korea for a year. He met his wife, Carol, in 1980 while stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. They wed in 1981 in Garden City, Kansas. They welcomed their first child Christopher Ryan Steitz in November of 1982. Also in 1982, Dan joined the Wheat Ridge Police Department. He worked there from 1982 to 1987. In 1987 they welcomed their second child, Katelynn Ashley Steitz. Dan lateralled to Aurora Police Department in July of 1987 where he remained until 2011. He loved being a police officer and made many lasting friendships during his career. He had many roles while at the department and finished his last seven years with the Auto Theft Task Force where he was named "Investigator of the Year" in 2010. During his career as a police officer he earned his Bachelor's degree from Colorado Christian University and his passion for aviation developed. He would fly on his days off and eventually became a Private Pilot Instructor and began working for Key Lime Air. After retiring from Aurora Police Department he pursued his passion of flying full time with Key Lime Air and became their Director of Flight Safety. During his flight career he achieved his ATP flight rating. Dan was very active in church, Peace with Christ Lutheran Church, in Aurora, Colorado. He was an usher, led small group bible studies and was an officer on the church board.
Dan was a man of many words, in which he often shared them. He was loved by many and meant so much to those who knew him. He was smart, inspirational, and full of laughs. He will be greatly missed.
Dan is survived by his wife Carol; daughter Katelynn; sisters Beth Ackelmire and Barbara Riley; and brother Paul Steitz. He is preceded in death by his parents Reinhold and Jeanette (Orth) Steitz and his son Christopher.
